Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- Prepare the Custard Filling: Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Gradually stir in milk, cooking over medium heat until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla extract. Chill for at least 30 minutes, then form into balls and freeze.
- Make the Mochi Dough: Combine glutinous rice flour and sugar in a bowl, add milk slowly to form a thick batter. Microwave in 1-minute intervals for 3-4 minutes, stirring until thick and sticky. Stir in melted butter and cool slightly.
- Assemble the Mochi Balls: Dust workspace with cornstarch. Divide and flatten mochi dough, place a custard ball in the center, wrap and roll into a smooth ball.
- Coat and Chill: Roll mochi balls in crushed vanilla cookies and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes to firm up.

Notes
Whisk continuously while making custard to avoid burning and achieve the perfect thickness. Use cornstarch to prevent sticking when handling mochi dough. Chill the mochi balls for the best texture.
