Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Custard Filling: Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Gradually stir in milk, cooking over medium heat until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla extract. Chill for at least 30 minutes, then form into balls and freeze.
  2. Make the Mochi Dough: Combine glutinous rice flour and sugar in a bowl, add milk slowly to form a thick batter. Microwave in 1-minute intervals for 3-4 minutes, stirring until thick and sticky. Stir in melted butter and cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Mochi Balls: Dust workspace with cornstarch. Divide and flatten mochi dough, place a custard ball in the center, wrap and roll into a smooth ball.
  4. Coat and Chill: Roll mochi balls in crushed vanilla cookies and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes to firm up.
