  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
For the Chinese Garlic Sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree (or paste)
  • 6 tbsp caster sugar Balances acidity and spice.
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy Chilli Beef
  1. Prepare the Steak: Slice the steak into thin strips and coat with beaten egg, then mix with cornflour, salt, black pepper, and white pepper. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat sunflower oil in a pan and fry beef in batches for 5-6 minutes until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: In the same pan, add remaining oil and cook onion for 2 minutes, then add chili, ginger, and garlic for 30 seconds.
  4. Make Sauce: Combine rice vinegar, soy sauce, tomato puree, caster sugar, ketchup, and sweet chili sauce in the pan, stirring for 2-3 minutes until bubbling.
  5. Combine and Serve: Add beef to the sauce, ensuring it's coated, and heat for 1-2 minutes. Serve over jasmine rice or with stir-fried noodles.
