Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Irish Butter Adds richness and moisture; substitute with regular unsalted butter if needed.
  • 4 cups Unbleached All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; no substitutions recommended for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Adds a hint of sweetness; omit for a less sweet bread.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder Ensures the bread rises; ensure it’s fresh for optimal results.

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Adds savory depth; fresh garlic can be used for more intensity.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Infuses flavor; can substitute with finely chopped onions.

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 loaf pan with butter.
  2. Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted Irish butter over low heat and use it to coat the greased loaf pan.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until well blended.
  4. Fold in the shredded Irish cheddar cheese gently, distributing it throughout the dry mixture.
  5. Create a well in the dry ingredients and pour in 1.5 cups of Irish beer. Mix until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Prepare the garlic butter topping by mixing melted butter, parsley, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  9. Brush the warm garlic butter topping over the surface of the bread once baked.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
