Ingredients
  

Tea Base
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri/Himalayan green tea or substitute with other green tea
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda essential for color
  • 1-2 pieces star anise or omit if unavailable
  • 2 pieces cardamom pods crushed
  • 1 stick cinnamon or substitute with 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt optional
Creaminess
  • 2 cups whole milk or plant-based milk for dairy-free
Sweetening
  • sugar or honey add to taste
Garnish
  • crushed nuts optional, almonds or pistachios

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Boil the water in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the tea leaves and boil for 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the baking soda and boil for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Introduce the star anise, crushed cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick, and let boil for 1 minute.
  5. Reduce heat and let simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Blend in the whole milk and increase heat to medium, stirring constantly.
  7. Once boiled and pink, strain the mixture into cups.
  8. Sweeten with sugar or honey and garnish with crushed nuts.
