  • 1 cup almond flour can substitute with hazelnut flour
  • 1.75 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 3 large egg whites at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar for stabilizing meringue
For the Buttercream Filling
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter creamed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional but recommended
  • 1 drop gel food coloring for vibrant hues

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Sift together almond flour and powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Whip egg whites until they form stiff peaks, gradually adding granulated sugar.
  3. Fold the dry ingredients into the meringue until smooth.
  4. Drizzle in gel food coloring and fold until evenly blended.
  5. Pipe small circles of the batter onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Allow piped macarons to rest for about 30 minutes until a dry skin forms.
  7. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake macarons for 15-18 minutes.
  8. Beat unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  9. Pipe buttercream filling onto one macaron shell and sandwich with another shell.
  10. Decorate as desired to resemble Santa's belt.
