Step-by-Step Instructions
- Begin by creaming unsalted butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and fine salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients until just incorporated.
- Divide dough into three portions. Keep one uncolored, add red food coloring to second, and green to third.
- Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out each colored dough into rectangles approximately 7x12 inches. Stack in order: green, uncolored, red.
- Trim uneven edges, roll into a tight log, sealing edges. Coat log with Christmas sprinkles.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice log into 1/3-inch thick rounds. Place on baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes.
- Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for about 15 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
