Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to thoroughly mix everything together until well blended, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Shape the mixture into uniform meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place on a baking tray.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on each side for about 2-3 minutes. Transfer browned meatballs to a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, add a bit more olive oil if necessary, sauté 1 onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of red wine to deglaze the skillet, stirring for about 2-3 minutes until it slightly reduces.
  6. Stir in 1 cup of beef broth, 1 can of crushed tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and the oregano and basil. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Return the meatballs to the skillet and ensure they are mostly submerged in the sauce. Cover and reduce heat to low, braising for about 30 minutes.
  8. After 30 minutes, taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Let meatballs rest for a few minutes before serving.
